Who Is Brown Girl Interrupting?
“You can never leave footprints that last if you are always walking on tiptoes.” -Leymah Gbowee
My days of tiptoeing are over and I am making my mark on the world. My name is Marya Firdausi Kazmi and I am a first-generation Bangladeshi- Pakistani American born and raised in the DMV. I am a proud and at times struggling, mother of four children grown and young.
I started writing and sharing the journey of my story in April of 2020 after leaving a damaging marriage of seventeen years. I had a lot healing and unlearning to do about who I was and what I knew about the world.
Writing about this process found and saved the parts of me I never knew existed.
My story of embarking on change, balancing children, leaving a marriage, and entering the abyss of the dating pool is familiar to many. I love and get hurt. I take risks and fall. I learn and I grow. Now, I am inviting you to join me on this adventure of discovery, reflection and growth.
